Description
Description | The government is reconsidering plans to develop an advanced ultra supercritical (AUSC) technology-based coal power project due to high upfront costs and the need for viability gap funding (VGF). The project aims to replace aging subcritical coal plants with more efficient and environmentally friendly alternatives. The technology was developed jointly by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, NTPC, and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, completing its R&D phase in December 2020. An 800-megawatt commercial plant was announced in the 2024 budget speech, but the project has yet to receive requisite approvals and has seen no progress since March 2025. |
