Description

Description

The A.T.H.E.N.A project (Advancing Technology, Humanism, Ethics, and New Approaches for Europe) aims to promote a deeper understanding of European values, democracy, and innovation among high school students, in the context of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). Through interdisciplinary educational activities, the project seeks to develop critical thinking, digital literacy, and active democratic participation. A.T.H.E.N.A. addresses the needs identified through a student survey, which revealed significant gaps in their knowledge about the European Union’s history and democratic processes. The project focuses on enhancing civic, democratic, and digital skills by engaging students in structured debates on European topics, creative writing workshops, and forum theatre performances. Study visits to European institutions will offer participants the opportunity to experience EU governance mechanisms firsthand. The project also includes workshops on digital translation, AI-assisted storytelling, and decision-making simulations modelled after the European Parliament. The A.T.H.E.N.A project aligns with the priorities of the Jean Monnet programme by advancing knowledge of the European Union’s principles and addressing societal challenges through education and innovation. By bridging traditional education with cutting-edge technology, it reinforces the EU’s commitment to inclusivity, ethical governance, and digital transformation, preparing future generations for active, informed participation in a dynamic European society. Implemented by a multidisciplinary team of experienced teachers, ATHENA ensures continuous activity monitoring and an effective dissemination plan. Its results will be integrated into the school’s ongoing activities and made available to the educational community, shaping a well-informed generation ready to uphold European values and actively engage in democratic life.
