Description
Description | Within the framework of the Aeroporti di Roma’s decarbonisation strategy, and ensuring continuity with the process started in 2023 with the installation of e-vehicle supply points in the airside area of Fiumicino airport and the modernisation of the electrical infrastructure, the project “Advanced eGO at FCO” aims to complete the full electrification of ground operations at the airport. The objective will be achieved through a significant expansion of recharging infrastructure. By its end date, the project will deploy a network of 211 electric recharging points to support handling operators in recharging and operating e-vehicles for daily ground operations, covering both passenger and cargo handling activities, thus enabling their complete shift to electric mobility. In order to ensure efficient and reliable recharging of the airport’s EV ground operation fleet, the project will upgrade 2 electrical substations in the airside area, essential to power the electric supply facilities. These upgrades will expand the substations capacity to draw electricity from the national grid and convert it from high voltage to medium and low voltage, also enabling the accommodation of additional electric charging facilities in the future. The project is an essential milestone in the airport’s decarbonisation strategy. It will support the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy since airport operations electrification is a first strong step towards carbon neutrality for the aviation industry. Moreover, by supporting zero emission transport, the project is contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal, as set out in the Communication from the Commission COM (2019) 640 of 11 December 2019. |
