Higher music education (HME) graduates are the makers of tomorrow's musical life. Facing new challenges, such as dealing with the digital shift, climate change, the growing diversity of cultural and societal needs and a labour market under constant dynamic change, they will be tasked with promoting the resilience of artists, musicians and other cultural professionals. As the leading voice for HME in Europe, AEC represents the entire HME sector all across the European Higher Education Area. Through its communication activities, AEC reaches out to a potential audience of 100.000 individuals within and beyond the sector. Already, AEC has had significant impact in encouraging HMEIs to trigger innovation, adapt to change and to take on the responsibility to contribute to social well-being. 'AEC - empowering artists as makers' is opening a new chapter in the association's road map towards the future of Higher Music Education. The project aims at: • Enhancing cooperation among HMEIs at European level and beyond to strengthen artists’ mobility and employability; • Strengthening Lifelong Learning opportunities for artists and for HMEI teachers and reinforcing AEC’s role in delivering such opportunities; • Reinforcing the capacity of AEC and its members to represent their interests and to advocate for the promotion of the cultural and creative sector; • Establishing a reliable empirical basis for actions aimed to support the project’s performance and to scale up the HME sector, including in relation to Going Green and Digitisation; • Further developing and innovating music education, from the scope and responsibilities of institutions to learning & teaching and curriculum design; • Shaping and implementing fair, inclusive, diverse and gender equal frameworks in Music HMEIs. Outputs from the work (conferences, workshops, publications, etc.) will strengthen AEC’s support to its members and reinforce synergies with other European and international organisations.
