The Affordable Housing Project in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador addressed critical housing and infrastructure needs. This capital project involves upgrading and constructing new municipal infrastructure to support affordable housing development in two locations: Pleasant Street and King’s Haven (Thompson Street Extension). The upgrades include new water, storm, and sanitary sewer systems, kerb and gutter, sidewalks, and street infrastructure. The project will result in the construction of 73 housing units on Pleasant Street and 120 units with an added capacity of 225 on Thompson Street Extension. Combined, both projects will install 1,935 metres of new watermains, 1,331 metres of new sanitary sewer, 1,503 metres of new storm sewer, and 1,975 metres of new roads. The outcome will be immediate access to affordable housing, improved walking access for students, seniors, and vulnerable sectors to community services and amenities, and enhanced housing availability to support the town’s growth.
