Description
Description | A government plan to develop Affordable Housing units on a disputed 58-acre parcel of land at Kia Wairera in Githunguri, Kiambu County. The land is claimed by local elders as a sacred community shrine with cultural and historical significance. The project has faced strong opposition from the Kikuyu Council of Elders and Kiama Kia Ma elders, who staged a traditional ritual protest and called for the land to be preserved as a heritage site. The High Court has issued a temporary order halting any activity on the land pending a hearing in July 2026, effectively pausing the project. |
