Afraha Stadium Upgrade for 2027 AFCON

The Kenya Defence Forces have taken full operational control of the multi-billion-shilling modernization of Nakuru's Afraha Stadium. The project involves heavy civil engineering works including reinforcement of concrete pillars, column casting, and installation of load-bearing beams. The upgrade expands seating capacity from 8,200 to between 13,000 and 15,000 seats in the intermediate phase, with a long-term target of 20,000 seats. Additional features include an all-weather Tartan running track, advanced football pitch drainage and turf, high-mast floodlights for evening fixtures, modernized sanitation blocks, enhanced security, and a VIP pavilion. The project aims to meet international standards ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and boost local economic activity in Nakuru.
