Description

Description

The Africa Agriculture and Trade Investment Fund (AATIF) is a public-private partnership fund that pursues development policy objectives in an economically sustainable manner. It works closely with financial institutions that have expertise in the agricultural sector and offer financial services, as well as with African companies to increase agricultural productivity, often with the participation of smallholder farmers. AATIF offers financing products such as loans and occasionally guarantees, and supports partner institutions in complying with environmental and social standards through its Compliance Advisor. The fund was founded in response to the 2008/2009 financial crisis and invests primarily in the African agricultural sector to support agricultural SMEs and companies along the value chains. It helps increase productivity and value creation and supports German development goals, particularly in the areas of rural development and food security. AATIF improves access to financial services and markets for companies and smallholder farmers in rural areas of Africa, thus contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.
