Description | Biovac, a South African pharmaceutical company, has secured a $108.3 million financing package to build Africa's first end-to-end, multi-vaccine production plant. The project will be located at Biovac's Cape Town manufacturing site and is expected to be completed by 2028. The facility will initially produce oral cholera vaccines and eventually vaccines for polio, pneumonia, and meningitis, with a capacity of up to 40 million doses per year. The project aims to address 40% of the global cholera vaccine supply gap and support regional markets served by UNICEF and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. It will also generate over 340 skilled jobs and an estimated 7,000 indirect jobs. |
