Description | Africa’s Great Green Wall is a massive reforestation initiative to stop the southward spread of the Sahara Desert and rejuvenate degraded land. The project envisions a belt of trees stretching 8,000 kilometers long and 15 kilometers wide, from Senegal to Djibouti. It aims to restore barren land, enhance agricultural productivity, support food security, reduce poverty, and increase carbon dioxide absorption. Since its launch in 2007, it has restored nearly 18 million hectares of land and generated approximately 350,000 jobs across 11 African nations. |
