Description

Description

Tata Group's battery manufacturing arm Agratas is constructing electric car battery factories at Somerset in the UK and Sanand in Gujarat, India. The Somerset plant has a planned capacity of 40 GWh and the Sanand plant 20 GWh in its first phase, totaling 60 GWh, enough to supply batteries for about one million electric vehicles annually. The project has passed major structural milestones and is now in the critical fit-out and commissioning phase, which includes equipment installation and clean-environment validation. The UK government has provided a £380 million grant as part of a broader support package for the Somerset gigafactory, which has a total project cost of around £4 billion. The Sanand plant is one of the largest battery facilities being built in India and will support Tata Motors' electric vehicle production and energy storage systems.
