Description | The Import of Agricultural Goods Project for Peru will provide a loan of $5 million to the Banco de Fomento Agropecuario for the importation of livestock, agricultural machinery, and machinery for storage and processing of agricultural resources. These imports are needed to assure the continuing development of agricultural resources in Peru. The Banco de Fomento Agropecuario is an autonomous government agency that provides credit to farmers for short term production purposes and longer term purchases of agricultural equipment. The Banco will give credit to farmers and other groups to purchase the imported goods for agricultural development. Farmers in Peru urgently need more equipment and better animals to produce the basic foodstuffs for the rapidly growing population and expanding national economy. The production of food has not kept pace with demand and imports of cereals and livestock products have risen. The project will help to alleviate these problems by providing enough money to finance the importation of goods needed to increase agricultural production and develop agricultural resources. |
