Description | The Third Agricultural Credit Project for Peru will provide a loan of $5 million to the Banco de Fomento Agropecuario to continue its program of medium and long term credits to farmers for agricultural development. The Banco is a government owned institution that provides agricultural credit and extension services and engages in certain commercial activities. It is the only source of development credit for agriculture in Peru. Its program, as a supplement to private investment, has contributed significantly to the improvement and expansion of agricultural production. The project will support the Banco's program by providing funding to: 1) improve and develop irrigation facilities; 2) import farm tractors and other equipment; 3) develop land for plantation crops; 4) import breeding stock; 5) erect farm fences; and 6) construct agricultural processing plants. These additions will help to increase agricultural production and the farming industry in Peru. |
