Description

Description

Core problem The agricultural sector, the driving force of the Ivorian economy, is dominated by small-scale, subsistence-oriented production units. Insufficient access to sales markets and a lack of investment capital are hampering their development. In addition, credit institutions are reluctant to grant loans to small farmers. Module objective The aim of the project is to improve the economic situation of supported small farmers, cooperatives and small and medium-sized agricultural companies while at the same time complying with agreed environmental and social standards. Key outputs A financing facility will be set up that will provide credit lines to selected banks and microfinance institutions for the granting of agricultural loans, provided that they in turn grant loans to the final borrowers in accordance with the terms and conditions of the facility. The financial partners will receive strategic advice on the expansion potential of their agricultural portfolio in order to give new target groups access to financing and to improve credit offers for value chains beyond cocoa and rubber. At the same time, relevant organisations supporting the actors in agricultural value chains are supported with technical advice on improving their training offers. Target group Small farmers in rural areas who have access to land, land use rights and the necessary labour, but not sufficient financial means and knowledge to produce high-quality products and market them. This includes a large number of family-run, subsistence-oriented businesses that are unable to overcome their poverty due to low productivity and a lack of market access. In addition, people who are not directly benefited, such as migrant and unskilled workers, also benefit. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 - No Poverty - No Hunger
