The Agricultural Services and Producer Organizations Project is the First Phase of the Agricultural Services and Producer Organizations Program, which aims at the sustainable increase of smallholder agricultural productivity, production, and incomes through technological change, while at the same time protecting the environment. The project components are as follows: 1) National Research Funding (NARF) will be established to improve the competitiveness of Senegalese agriculture, diversify the country's productive base, protect natural resources, and improve value-added of agricultural production. 2) The program will support the institutional development of the Senegalese Agricultural Research Institute (ISRA) and Food Technology Institute (ITA) through financial resources management, streamlining research infrastructure, and improving personnel qualifications. 3) Agricultural extension will help National Agency for Agricultural and Rural Counsel (ANCAR), a semi-public agency comanaged by the government and producer organizations with mechanisms to guarantee accountability to producers. 4) The program will help producer organizations (POs) strengthen capabilities through training, communication, and support to production and processing technical innovations. 5) The program will strengthen public service functions of the Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock.
