Description
Description | The program promotes the expansion of Community Managed Natural Farming (CNF) in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh (AP) as a method of environmentally friendly, agroecological farming that does not use external inputs (especially the use of mineral fertilizers and pesticides) - with biological-organic seed treatment, fertilization and pest control. The core problem is the degradation of agricultural soils due to improper use and application of synthetic inputs (especially the use of mineral fertilizers and pesticides) under increasingly volatile production conditions due to climate change, as well as the precarious living conditions of small farming households due to fluctuations in yields and debt problems, including the purchase of external inputs. The aim is to increase soil health and productivity, as well as stabilized/increased income and climate resilience for the participating small farming families through the spread of the CNF in Andhra Pradesh. The target group by 2025 is around 107,000 marginalized and poor small farming households. The work with the target group is carried out primarily through women's self-help groups. The project sponsor is Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS)/ Corporation of Farmers empowerment, a non-profit organization owned by the federal state of Andhra Pradesh. The total cost of the program is estimated at EUR 138.3 million, financed by a low-interest loan of up to EUR 90 million, as well as an Indian contribution of EUR 48.3 million. An accompanying measure of EUR 1 million also supports the sponsor (BMZ No. 2019 70 243). The implementation is carried out as Results Based Lending (RBL) using Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLI). |
