Description | The Agua Negra Tunnel is a monumental 13.9 km road tunnel project designed to cross the Andes Mountains at an altitude of approximately 4,080 meters. It aims to connect the Argentine province of San Juan with the Coquimbo Region in Chile, integrating a land axis that targets Pacific ports. The tunnel will partially replace the high mountain section of the current Agua Negra border crossing with an underground passage capable of maintaining more stable traffic throughout the year, reducing vulnerability to snow, ice, and seasonal closures. The project is part of a larger Central Bi-Oceanic Corridor to connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, enhancing logistics, foreign trade, and regional integration. |
