In August 2002, a concession contract was signed for the expansion, rehabilitation and operation of the water and sewerage systems of Alta Floresta, a town with approximately 44 thousand residents in the state of Mato Grosso. The contract was awarded through a competitive tender, with an option to renew the contract through direct negotiation at the end of the thirty year period. No information was available regarding the bidding criteria. In 2009, the Alta Floresta had 100% in water coverage and 35% sewerage collection coverage. The 30-year contract envisaged a 70% sewerage collection coverage by 2016. No information was available regarding the original sponsor nor their investment commitment in the project company.
