In September 2014, Grupo Aguas do Brasil, a partnership of the Brazilian companies Developer S.A. – Grupo Carioca Engenharia, Queiroz Galvao Saneamento, Trana Construções (Aquapar Participações) and Construtora Cowan, was awarded the 35-year concession contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the water facilities of Jau, located at the state of Sao Paulo. The contract was awarded by the municipality, and the investments were expected to benefit around 118,895 people. Only two companies took part in the bidding process: Grupo Aguas do Brasil and Aegea Saneamento. The bidding criteria was a combination of technical and financial parameters. The contract was signed in December 2014, and the private sponsor took over the operations of the water services in April 2015. The special purpose company Aguas de Jahu was set to lead the project. The total investment in the project was estimated at US$ 55.4 million (BRL 165 million), in addition to a US$ 6.7 million (BRL 20 million) payment to the municipality for the concession rights.
