Description

Description

In October 2001, the local government of Matupa, in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, awarded in a competitive bidding process a 30-year concession contract for water and sewage services in the municipality to private operator Aguas de Matupa. The contract envisaged the possibility of a 10-year extension depending on direct negotiation between the parties. The contract established the goals to reach 100% water coverage during the first two years of the concession contract and at least 50% sewerage collection coverage in the first ten years of the contract. The company was to serve a population of 10,350 and invest some $0.07 million (R$0.27 million) in infrastructure development. All investments were to be completed by the end of 2010. According to the Brazilian agency for private concessionaires in the water and sewage sector (ABCON), Aguas de Matupa was owned by local firm Perenge Engenharia. In February 2014, Nascente do Xingu, a subsidiary of AEGEA Saneamento e Participacoes, acquired Aguas de Guaranta from Perenge Engenharia. Source: Ministerio das Cidades
