In August 2000, Brasil Central Engenharia Ltda signed the 30-year concession contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the water and sewerage systems of the city of Uniao do Sul, located in the state of Mato Grosso. This small town had a population of 3.8 thousand residents. No information was available regarding the private sponsor investment commitment or the bidding criteria for this concession contract. Aguas de Uniao do Sul was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brasil Central Engenharia Ltda (Grupo Dias). In 2012, Aegea (subsidiary of the Brazilian company Equipav) acquired the project company along with another 15 water and wastewater concessionaries that were operating in the state of Mato Grosso and belonged to Grupo Dias.
