In May 2004, Aguas de Vera Abastecimento e Distribuicao Ltda signed the 30-year concession contract to expand and rehabilitate the water and sewerage systems of the city of Vera (state of Mato Grosso). No information was available regarding the private sponsor´s investment commitment and the bidding criteria for this concession contract. The concession contract envisaged a guaranteed payment to the private sponsor of US$ 26 million (BRL 76.5 million) over the life of the concession, which was the value of the estimated tariff revenues. The city had a population of 10.8 thousand in 2004. Aguas de Vera was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brasil Central Engenharia Ltda (Grupo Dias). In 2012, Aegea (subsidiary of the Brazilian company Equipav) acquired the project company along with another 15 water and wastewater concessionaries that were operating in the state of Mato Grosso and belonged to Grupo Dias. The ownership of all these companies were transfered to a newly created holding called Nascente do Xingu, itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aegea.
