Aguas de Votorantim, a partnership of the Brazilian company Saneamento Ambiental Águas do Brasil S/A (Aguas do Brasil Group) and SGA – Sistemas de Gestão Ambiental LTDA (a subsidiary of the Portuguese company Somague), was awarded the 30-year concession contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the water and sewerage facilities of the city of Votorantim (state of Sao Paulo) in February. The contract was awarded by the municipality's central administration. The population of Votorantim was estimated at 108,800. Aguas do Brasil Group, a partnership of Developer S.A., Queiroz Galvao Participacoes-Concessoes S.A., Trana Construcoes Ltda and Construtora Cowan S.A. , held 60% of the shares in Aguas de Votorantim, while SGA held 40% of the shares. Aguas de Votorantim was awarded the contract by offering the lowest tariff. Only one other company took part in the contest: the Brazilian CAB Ambiental. The contract was signed in May 2012, and the private sponsor took over the operations of the water and sewerage services in June 2012. The private sponsor committed to invest US$ 47.1 million (BRL 93 million) over the life of the project.
