The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) said First Gen offered the highest bid for the Agusan power plant at US$1.5 million. First Gen was the energy arm of the Lopez Group. First Gen bested two other bidders: Hydro Electric Development Corp. and Sta. Clara International Corp. In April of 2004, the Philippine government launched a planned US$5 billion divestiture of the power assets of state-owned National Power Corp. (Napocor) through PSALM. The Agusan plant was one of 35 owned by Napocor, which the government had planned to divest in order to trim the firm's debts. None None |
