Description
Description | The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is Turkey's first nuclear power plant located on the Mediterranean coast. The $24 billion project involves the construction of four Russian-designed VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts. The plant is being built, owned, and operated by Russia's Rosatom under a build-own-operate model. The project has faced significant delays due to financial issues, Western sanctions on Russia, and supply chain disruptions. Currently, construction has slowed with work halted on three of the four reactors, and only the first unit remains under active development. Completion of the first reactor is now expected in 2026, about 18 months behind schedule. |
