Description
Description | The objective of the Al Qatrana Power Project is to strengthen security of energy supply in Jordan in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner. There are four components to the project. The first component of the project is the power station: the power station will use natural gas as the main fuel and distillate fuel oil (DFO) as a back-up. The plant site is about 90 kilometers south of Amman and 250 kilometers north of Aqaba, in the vicinity of Al-Qatrana town. The plant will be of a traditional design with two gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), one steam generator (130 MW, supplied by Skoda Power as.), an air-cooled condenser, and other associated equipment and structures. The second component of the project is the electricity connection: the plant will be connected to the power system through a 500-meter long, 132-kilovolt (kV) electrical transmission line. The cost is approximately JD 3.1 million (USD 4.4 million), which will be absorbed by National Electric Power Company (NEPCO). NEPCO will purchase all of the plant's electrical output through a 25-year PPA. The third component of the project is the fuel supply: The project will use natural gas that will be supplied from the high-pressure Arab Gas Transmission Pipeline (AGTP), which carries natural gas from Egypt to Jordan and further on to Syria and passes next to the power plant site. The fourth and the final component of the project is the water supply: water will be supplied by Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ), which will construct and own an approximately two-kilometer long water pipeline from a pumping station on the water main line to the delivery point at the project site at a cost of about JD 100,000 (USD 140,000), paid by the Qatrana Electric Power Company. |
