Description | EDF Power Solutions and Korea Western Power Co., Ltd. (KOWEPO) have signed a deal to develop the 1.5-GW Al Zarraf solar PV project in Abu Dhabi. A joint development agreement was signed with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) at the World Utilities Congress in Abu Dhabi. The project was awarded following a competitive bidding process with 16 companies and consortia qualified. EDF and KOWEPO will own up to 40% of the project, with the remaining equity held indirectly by the Abu Dhabi government. Zarraf Solar will be developed as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) project in the Al Zarraf area of the Al Dhafra Region, generating electricity for roughly 160,000 homes annually. |
