Description

Description

The Kuwait Alzour LNG Terminal construction project is the world's largest LNG tank construction project to construct 8 units of 225,000㎥ LNG storage tanks on the sea-reclaimed site in Al-Zour region, 90km south of Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait. As a project that required the construction of 8 LNG tanks within the given construction period, it is composed of experienced staff and partners at home and abroad. Since 8 tanks are simultaneously constructed, material management and schedule management are not easy.In particular, in the tank hydro test, a method of injecting seawater into the side of the tank was applied for the first time among Korean construction companies. After finishing the internal tank construction, a hydraulic test is conducted. In the case of general domestic construction, the tank is filled with a large amount of fresh water to measure the settlement for two days. In this process, it takes a considerable amount of time to fill the water by connecting the pipe to the nozzle at the top of the tank and empty the refilled water. In the case of the projects in the Middle East, unlike in Korea, it was difficult to obtain a large amount of fresh water, so seawater had to be used during the hydro test. Moreover, storing seawater in a tank for a long time exposes it to the risk of corrosion, so a solution was needed. Accordingly, corrosion inhibitors were selected through a preliminary mock-up test, and a nozzle to move seawater was installed on the side of the tank rather than on the top of the tank, and with the approval of the client and the Kuwait Environment Agency, the hydro test was conducted based on an improved method.Through the improved method, Hyundai E&C was able to complete the hydro test in 52days by reducing 66 days from the existing 118 days, and the pump specifications required for floor drainage were also lower compared to the existing ones, therefore we were able to achieve significant cost-effectiveness as well.Through this project, Hyundai E&C was able to accumulate considerable experience by constructing 8 tanks, and it will be able to actively utilize these strengths when constructing LNG tanks in the Middle East.
