Description | US solar and storage developer OCI Energy and its partner CPS Energy have officially launched the construction of their 120-MW/480-MWh Alamo City battery energy storage system (BESS) in Texas. The project will create one of the largest standalone energy storage sites in the region. Located in southeastern Bexar County, the BESS will provide up to four hours of storage capacity to serve the energy needs of the San Antonio community for a 20-year period. Its commissioning is scheduled for 2027. When fully charged, it will be capable of meeting the power demand of about 30,000 homes. The Alamo City BESS was developed and financed by OCI Energy, which will retain ownership under a long‑term storage capacity agreement with CPS Energy. CPS Energy will have operational control of the facility. Financing was provided by Dutch ING, LG Energy Solution Vertech is supplying the battery energy storage technology, and Elgin Power Solutions is the EPC contractor. |
