Alamo Square Renovation

Alamo Square is a 13-acre hilltop park famous for its breathtaking views of downtown San Francisco. It is one of the most esteemed open spaces in the city, as popular with tourists, photographers and filmmakers as it is with locals enjoying the playground, paved walkways, tennis courts and off-leash dog area. Anvil Builders was contracted by the City’s Recreation & Park department for a year-long renovation. Improvements included replacement of the decades-old irrigation lines with a modern water-efficient system, installation of drought-tolerant grasses, construction of a unisex bathroom with curved concrete walls, and routing new utilities onto park property. The project’s water conservation efforts alone are expected to save the City more than 3 million gallons of water each year. Anvil’s management team overcame a number of unforeseen conditions during construction, including a significant increase in scope-of-work. Community-provided trees and paving stones were installed and sections of damaged walkways and drainage structures were replaced. The schedule was further impacted due to the winter of 2016-2017 being one of the stormiest seasons on record.
