Description

The Alaska LNG Pipeline Project is a $44 billion integrated project to develop an 807-mile, 42-inch pipeline connecting the Prudhoe Bay and Point Thomson fields on the North Slope to a 20 million tonnes per year liquefaction terminal at Nikiski on the Kenai Peninsula. The project aims to unlock Alaska's vast natural gas reserves and position Alaska as a key supplier for Asian energy markets. It includes a liquefaction terminal and pipeline with a capacity to process approximately 3.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily, potentially supplying 24-27% of Japan's annual LNG consumption. The project has transitioned to majority private sector control and secured a technology partnership with Baker Hughes for gas turbines and compressors. Engineering firm Worley Ltd is conducting the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) study, started in May 2025 and expected to complete by December 2025. The project targets commercial operations between 2031 and 2032, with pipeline Final Investment Decision (FID) targeted for early 2026.
