In Aug. 2000, Cosmo-Holding Albania acquired an 85% equity stake in AMC from the Albanian government for US$ 85.6 million. The fee was paid in two installments: US$42.8 million in Aug. 2000 and the rest in Feb. 2001. Cosmo-Holding is a joint-venture of Cosmote (97%) and Telenor (3%). Cosmote, in turn, was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Greek company OTE. In October 2008, the Albanian government announced its intention to sell its residual 15% shareholding in AMC. In March 2009, Cosmote signed a share purchase agreement with the Albanian government for the acquisition of a further 12.58% interest in AMC, held by the Albanian state. The share purchase was valued at EUR48.2 million (US$67 million). As a result of this transaction, Cosmote held, directly and indirectly, a 95.03% stake in AMC, as of end 2009. In 4Q2010, Cosmote increased its share ownership to 97%, and then subsequently to 100% in 4Q2013.
