Description

Description

The Alberta Capital Region Wastewater Commission (ACRWC) Waste Gas Burner Facility Project (the Project) consists of the construction of a new waste gas burner facility. The waste gas burner facility disposes of excess biogas which is used in boilers to heat the facility. The purpose of the Project is to meet current flaring requirements and safety codes as well as reduce the release of air pollutants (which could include some greenhouse gases). The existing facility (built in 1985) is over 30 years old and only achieves 90% combustion efficiency. This Project will increase the wastewater plant’s capacity to reduce air pollutants and achieve over 99% combustion efficiency. A new flare system, as part of the facility, will be enclosed with no visible flames seen by the public. The Project will also decrease safety concerns for the plant employees. The Project scope includes the construction of a new building with pipes and flares connected to digesters, as well as the demolishment of the existing waste gas burner facility.
