Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith signed a major new energy co-operation agreement outlining conditions for a new oil pipeline to the Pacific. The agreement includes fast-tracking the pipeline through the federal major projects process, contingent on Alberta signing an industrial carbon pricing agreement and the development of the Pathways Alliance carbon capture project. The pipeline is to be financed by the private sector with Indigenous co-ownership, moving at least one million barrels a day of low emission Alberta bitumen, prioritizing Asian markets.
