Alert Bay - Town Square Revitalization Project

The project will increase the access to community events in Alert Bay by rehabilitating the town square. The project will improve pedestrian access and safety, increase the functionality and protect the square from extreme weather events by completing work on the sea wall. The project will revitalize a meeting place for community events and outdoor activities. The project will encourage the community members to utilize the town square as a meeting place and supply a proper location for celebrations and events planned outdoors. The square will be utilized by the residents of Cormorant Island including the Namgis First Nation. The project works include: - construction of approx. 360 meters of seawall; - installation of new railings on top of the seawall; - construction of a new redesigned hard surface plaza space; - approx. 165m of parking; - construction of a pedestrian corridor; - associated electrical and plumbing; and, - all related works.
