Description

Description

The proposed Djen-Djen Port Equipment Project is the Bank Group's first intervention in the port sub-sector in Algeria. The Port of Djen-Djen located at 350 km east of Alger was built to replace the old port of Jijel of limited capacity (800 m long quay) and without any possibility for extension. It represents a key element in the improvement of the transport system of Algeria and its operation will significantly contribute towards the opening up and development of the Jijel region and a greater part of Eastern Ajgeria. The components adopted (superstructures and equipment) are in tune with the operational needs and the estimated transport demand. In this regard, the Port of Djen-Djen will be provide with handling and safety equipment as well as superstructures for its operation ; thus the Port of Djen-Djen will be in a position to meet the potentially high traffic demand. This will lead to a reduction of the costs of supplies for the people and industrial plants in the region and relieve the congestion at ports in Eastern Algeria. The estimated cost, net of taxes is UA 29.09 million.
