Description | Algeria is accelerating the development of its hydrogen industry to become a leading supplier of low-carbon energy to Europe. The national hydrogen strategy aims to produce 900,000 to 1.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2040, along with 300,000 tonnes of blue hydrogen for domestic use. The strategy involves installing 2.5 GW of electrolysis capacity supported by nearly 20 GW of renewable energy generation, requiring investments of around USD 25 billion. Seven hydrogen-related projects have been announced, including five green hydrogen production projects and two pipeline projects to transport hydrogen to Europe. |
