ALICE will be an exceptional 6 x 45 mn limited series, produced by a very strong association of european producers : it will tell the story of a French young woman with a thrilling whirlwind destiny, starting in Paris but travelling to New York to achieve her dreams. Alice Guy wasn’t simply Léon Gaumont’s former assistant-turned-first female filmmaker in the world, not to mention the highest-paid producer and director in the film industry in America in the 1910s. Alice’s story is that of an insolent teenager struggling to exist; a determined young woman, full of life and imagination, both free and subversive. It’s also the story of a talented, groundbreaking filmmaker, a formidable businesswoman, a warrior at the heart of a merciless male universe, a romantic woman desperately in love, and a wounded, betrayed wife. It’s the story of a great, timeless heroine, whose journey will enthrall audiences. The idea of creating a series around her became even more evident, given how incredibly contemporary and resonant this story proved to be, calling into question our own human, social and political concerns, and eminently relevant within the context of current events. But when you mention Alice Guy name the reaction is always the same : why such a talented women who definitely created the drama perspective in the beginning of XX century movie area, totally disappeared from the Cinema history?
