Description | Construction of the Cook Government's $2.8 billion Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant has reached a milestone with the arrival of Australia's largest registered jack-up barge to support marine construction works off Perth's northern coast. The barge will install the plant's ocean intake and outfall structures, connecting to underground pipelines bored by tunnel boring machines. The plant's first stage is expected to produce around 50 billion litres of drinking water annually, supplying over 2.5 million Western Australians and reducing reliance on groundwater sources. |
