The climate goals of the Paris Agreement and the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030 can only be achieved if we succeed in mobilizing private financing on a large scale - in addition to public funds. To support this, the non-profit foundation Alliance for Development and Climate was founded under German law in September 2020. The foundation's activities are based on the model of the voluntary market for CO2 certificates. Private individuals, associations, institutions or companies use this to finance climate protection projects in developing and emerging countries that simultaneously strengthen economic development, improve living conditions and protect the environment. In return, they receive climate protection certificates that demonstrate the extent to which their commitment contributes to avoiding CO2 emissions or binding CO2. The foundation supports the further development of this approach through public relations work and technical information, its participation in the national and international climate dialogue as well as studies and the promotion of innovative project approaches. In addition to the development effectiveness of the measures, special attention is also paid to the high and assured quality of the certificates, which also includes compliance with strict social and environmental standards. Currently (as of December 2022), the foundation is already working with over 1,700 supporters from business, administration and civil society.
