The proposed IFC investment (the “Project”) involves an IFC financing package of US$17m to Allied Chemicals Ethiopia SC ("Allied" or the "Company"), comprising (i) an IFC A Loan of up to US$11m in equivalent Ethiopian Birr and (ii) up to US$6m in Parallel Loans in equivalent Ethiopian Birr (ETB), to fund the completion, commissioning and initial operations of a fertilizer blending plant, including associated working capital.The project involves a fertilizer blending and granulation plant with a capacity of approximately 60,000 metric tons per annum. The process comprises import of primary nutrients (nitrogen, phosphate, potash) and local blending to supply the domestic agricultural market, supporting import substitution and access to soil-specific fertilizers.The facility is located on approximately 15,000 m² in Adama, Oromia Region, within an established industrial area about 90 km from Addis Ababa. The site is co-located with existing Allied operations (including sulphonation and speciality chemical plants) and benefits from established infrastructure. Surrounding land uses are predominantly industrial, with the nearest residential areas located approximately 1 km from the site. No land acquisition or resettlement was required. At the time of IFC’s involvement, the fertilizer blending facility was substantially constructed, with installation completed and the Project transitioning into the testing and commissioning phase prior to operations.
