Description

Description

Construction on the Alligator River Bridge replacement project on U.S. 64 is progressing with 368 of the 36-inch square piles driven, accounting for 63% of the total required. Additionally, 16 of the 54-inch diameter cylinder piles have been installed, representing 15% of the total needed. Pile driving in the river is paused due to an environmental moratorium until September 30, but other construction activities continue. The new high-rise, fixed-span bridge will replace the existing structurally deficient swing-span Lindsay C. Warren Bridge, built in 1960. The new bridge will have two 12-foot travel lanes with 8-foot breakdown lanes and is located just north of the current bridge. The project began environmental planning and preliminary design in early 2021 and is expected to be completed by fall 2029 with an estimated cost of $449.7 million.
