"This project involves the Phase 2 of the expansion of the internet access network in Ceará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rio de Janeiro, Sergipe, Piauí, Brazil. The sponsor for this initiative is the Brazilian company Alloha Fibra. The sponsor will expand the fixed broadband services in 81 municipalities in in the states of Ceará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Piauí, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro and Sergipe. This initiative will include 401 thousand homes in the coverage area with an expected connection of 88 thousand (300 thousand people) to the fiber optic network of Giga Mais, an Alloha Fibra brand. The new connections bolster the economies of the regions supported by the investments. High-capacity connectivity is crucial for development as it enables access to business opportunities, education, and healthcare services. The total project cost is $33m (R$192m) and it was secured with a loan from the Telecommunications Services Universalization Fund (FUST) of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES).
