Description
Description | Almoiz Industries Ltd established the partially captive Almoiz Bagasse-fired Cogeneration Plant at its sugar mill in Paharpur, Dera Ismail Khan District, North West Frontier Province. Almoiz Industries Limited is selling electricity from the project to the local grid under a 10-year, 'take-or-pay' power purchase agreement (PPA) with Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO). Pakistan's Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Almoiz Industries Limited for a waste-to-power generation plant in September 2005. In Feb. 2008, Almoiz Industries Limited signed a 10-year PPA with Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) to supply 15 MW of electricity from a new US$7.5 milllion, 27 MW bagasse-fired cogeneration power plant on a take-or-pay basis (bagasse is a residue from sugar cane). The outstanding 12 MW produced at the partially captive plant was to supply power to Almoiz's sugar mill plant. The cogeneration plant was composed of one 12 MW backpressure turbo generator made in 2005 and one 15 MW condensing extraction turbo generator made in 2006. Plant commissioning date was fixed for Oct. 1, 2008. The plant was to operate during six months of the year, from November to April.
