Description | Alstom has acquired a 20-acre site in Newark and plans to invest more than $55 million in acquisition and redevelopment to create a maintenance facility for NextGen Acela trainsets. The facility will include an enclosed workshop capable of servicing two complete trainsets simultaneously, an outdoor storage track, offices, and a parts distribution center. It will have a rail spur connecting directly to Northeast Corridor tracks to facilitate trainset movements by rail. The facility is expected to employ around 100 people and is scheduled to open in summer 2028, after all 28 NextGen Acela trainsets are scheduled to enter service through 2027. |
