Description | In 2006, TANESCO, the national electrical utility company of Tanzania, awarded Alstom Power Rentals (APR) a 40MW power project to temporarily supply power to Mwanza region. The temporary power plant was to be located in Mwanza on the shores of Lake Victoria approximately 600 miles north west of Dar es Salaam. The project cost was estimated to be US$150 million. The project mobilization schedule was divided into two 20MW phases. The main reason for this project was the region's dependence on hydro power, and Mwanza's hydro power reservoirs were suffering from low rainf all and the need to have the power plant only quickly was of up most importance. |
