Alternative Care Training

The ACT (Alternative Care Training)-project will build upon the existing (child protection) systems in EU MS, more specifically in NL, BG, IT and ES, and how to improve reception in alternative care arrangements being used for unaccompanied children (uam) aged 15-18 (in connection with guardianship). More specific, the project will provide tools for the training of professionals and practitioners in providing entrance to these arrangements to the target group. Activities: - Analyse the national context in NL, BG, IT and ES and write a recommendation report; - Develop training for practitioners that are taking care of the target group; - Offer the training directly in BG, IT and ES and to actors from other MS in an international train-the-trainer session; - Disseminate the training methodology, make the training materials accessible through websites. The target group of the training consists of practitioners who support uam in EU MS. The beneficiaries are uam aged 15-18 who would benefit from living in alternative care arrangements. The total potential number of beneficiaries must be several 10.000-s. To reach a significant part of them, both the train-the-trainer and the national trainings will be offered to bodies with national reach into local and regional youth care, or specialised national bodies. Project partners have access to the networks to provide such reach. As the project trains trainers, who in their turn will train practitioners responsible for guiding uam, there is a multiplier. The project will directly collect and spread practical knowledge on providing alternative care to the target group, improve access to alternative care in EU MS, more specific BG, IT and ES, give an incentive to other EU MS and provide the possibility to set up alternative care as a reasonable alternative institutional care. The project will result in a report with recommendations and targeted training around transformation of care systems away from institutional care.
