Alubar Mangue Seco 1 Wind Farm

The partnership of the Brazilian state-owned company Petrobras (51%) and the Brazilian Alubar Energia S.A. (49%) was granted an authorization to build a 26-MW wind power plant located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the municipality of Guamare. The 35-year contract was signed with the regulatory agency ANEEL in June 2010, and a special purpose company was created to manage the project: Eolica Mangue Seco 1 Geradora e Comercializadora de Energia S.A. This power plant was part of the Mangue Seco Wind Park, which had three other units: two owned by Petrobras and Wobben (Mangue Seco 3 and Mangue Seco 5) and another owned by Petrobras and state-owned Eletrobras (Mangue Seco 2). The subsidiary committed to invest US$ 53 million (BRL 212 million) in the construction of the 26 MW power plant. The entire park cost US$ 212 million (BRL 424 million). In 2010, the sponsors began the construction of the plant and operations commenced in October 2011. The power generated at the Mangue Seco Wind Park was set to be sold to the regulated market under 20-year power purchased agreements which were granted in a competitive bidding process in December 2009.
