Description | Following catastrophic flooding in northern Michigan, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) ordered engineering reviews and safety assessments at the Alverno, Tower, Kleber hydroelectric projects on the Black River, and the Cheboygan hydro project on the Cheboygan River. The inspections address operational and structural problems caused by flooding, including debris jams, gate problems, erosion, and sinkholes. The Black River dams are part of the Energen Renewables fleet, while the Cheboygan dam is owned by Thomas Homco with plans to sell to HydroMine Cheboygan. Reports and assessments are due in May 2026. |
