Description
Description | The development objective of the Amazonas (AM) Pro-Sustainability: Fiscal, Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability Program of the State of AM Project for Brazil is to strengthen environmental regulatory framework, enhance fiscal sustainability, and mobilize finance for natural resource conservation and bioeconomy of the State of AM. The state’s multiannual plan (PPA), informed by public consultations, focuses on three axes: 1. quality of life, 2. sustainable development, and 3. modernization of public management. The operation’s pillars 1 and 2 connect to the sustainable development goals (SDGs): (i) to protect and preserve the environment while promoting the State’s socio-environmental and economic development on sustainable foundations, (ii) to ensure an attractive, competitive, diversified, and entrepreneurship-friendly business environment, with a skilled workforce, streamlined processes, and institutional efficiency, (iii) to modernize public administration through the professionalization of public officers, the promotion of ethical values, the expansion of social participation mechanisms, and the strengthening of public policies and transparency practices, and (iv) to plan the State’s development with a focus on the productive and creative capacity of each territory, anchored in its aptitudes, potentialities, and respect for Indigenous people. Additionally, Pillar 2 is aligned with the PPA as it improves environmental monitoring and enables the State to access innovative funding through reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) and other sources. |
